Cookie Policy
The smallest possible set of cookies, used only to make the platform work.
What Cookies Are
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device when you visit it. Cookies allow the site to remember things about you between page loads, between sessions, and across devices that share an account. Most modern websites use them, often heavily, often invisibly. We use them, but we use as few as we can, and we describe each one below.
What We Use
The platform sets the following first-party cookies. Each is strictly necessary for the service to function. Together they constitute what UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations) classifies as strictly necessary cookies, for which consent is not required.
- ci_session. A session identifier set when you sign in. Used to keep you signed in across requests. Expires when you close your browser or after a period of inactivity.
- csrf_cookie. A token used to verify that a form submission originated from REN and not from a forged page elsewhere. Standard cross-site request forgery protection.
- ren_consent. A small flag stored after you respond to the cookie consent bar. Records your choice ("accept" or "decline") so we do not show the bar again. Stored in localStorage rather than as a cookie, but functionally identical.
Third-Party Cookies
The following third-party providers may set cookies when you interact with parts of the platform that they support. We have selected providers that are known for proportionate cookie use and that operate under European data protection law.
- Cloudflare. Sets bot-protection and routing cookies (
__cf_bm,cf_clearance) on every request. These keep the platform online by blocking automated abuse. They cannot be switched off without breaking the site. - Cloudflare Turnstile. Sets a short-lived challenge cookie on public forms (apply, partner, newsletter) to confirm you are a human. Cleared after submission.
- Stripe. Sets cookies during the checkout flow to detect fraudulent payment attempts. Active only on the Stripe-hosted checkout pages, not on the rest of REN.
Optional Analytics
We do not load any analytics or marketing cookies until you explicitly accept the cookie banner shown on your first visit. If you accept, the analytics scripts configured by REN at the time of your visit may set additional cookies. If you decline, no analytics scripts are loaded and no analytics cookies are set. You can change your mind at any time by clearing the ren_consent entry in your browser, which will cause the banner to reappear.
We do not use cookies to track you across other websites. We do not run advertising. We do not place pixels for third-party advertising platforms.
How to Control Cookies
You can clear, block, or restrict cookies through your browser settings at any time. The official documentation pages for the major browsers explain how to do this. Please be aware that blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent the platform from working: you will not be able to sign in, submit forms, or remain logged in between pages.
Changes to This Policy
If we add or remove a cookie, or if we change the way an existing cookie is used, we will update the list above and revise the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated to members by email at least thirty days before they take effect.
